Year 10 National Gallery Visit

Our Year 10s visited the National Gallery to participate in a workshop and take inspiration for the projects ahead. We arrived early to the workshops where the students were told a little about the collection and had the opportunity to make sketches of the work using some interesting and new techniques. In the afternoon, they had some time to explore the galleries and even complete a National Gallery treasure hunt!

We had a great time and our students produced some beautiful work and, very importantly, it didn’t rain!

Both teachers and gallery staff were very impressed with their level of maturity and enthusiasm. Thank you to all Year 10s for making this visit enjoyable, productive and relaxing! Also, a big thank you to Mr. Weir, Ms. Spain and Mr. Leadbetter, for joining us and making the visits possible! Well done everyone!

The Art Club, by Lisa

In the Art rooms, we do a number of different things. One of them is Art club on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, but Tuesday seems to be the most popular day for Art club. Art club on Tuesday is for Ks3 only, but some GSCE students get away with it!… Most of the time we get the choice on what we get to do: whether its sketching, painting or printing, there is always something going on.

The latest projects in Art Club are Tapestry making. I don’t think art club did tapestry making in past, but most of the club members joined with the making, while others still did their own projects. The idea of making the tapestries was suggested by Mr Burnett, who thought it would be a good idea for Ks3 Art Club to do as a project. I would have done one myself, but I was doing a water-coloured version of the Hogwarts crest (which is still not finished), so I didn’t get to do one.

Currently, the main project for some Art Clubbers, including myself is to make the set for this years Panto in a Hurry. We have a group of 10 – 11 students from Ks3 art club, myself and Mr Burnett. This year, it being Frankenstein, we are creating the “electric” parts that create the monster, we only have the templates drawn and cut out, but I’m sure it will look amazing when its done!

Poster Competition!

Have you started your Poster for our school’s poster competition?

All you have to do is produce a great artwork or illustration to go on a poster for Leytonstone School’s Childline. It could be anything, as long as it is relevant, and you can use any materials you want! And don’t worry about writing the number or any information on it: this will be added to your poster  if it is selected.

For more information, check out the Poster below or ask Mr. Smith, Mrs Kemp or Mr Burnett about it! You can even come to the KS3’s Art Club on Tuesdays to use our art materials or ask the teachers for help..

What is a Sgraffito? The Year 7’s have been discovering it this week!

This is a techniques where you have two or more layers of a material, then you scratch the first layer to reveal what is underneath.

Set Myint, from 7 Indigo, made a helpful comic page explaining how to create a sgraffito just like the one you see above!

Welcome to our new Year 7s!

The new Year 7 groups have been impressing teachers with their talent and resilience. They started their Drawing  and Mark Making project by drawing portraits of themselves and their families, which is not an easy feat!

During these lessons, they have learnt about face proportions, accuracy and how to add detail and tone. Below are some examples of the fantastic work they produced. It was incredibly difficult to choose just a few examples, so we hope you like them!
